Join Sonoma Ecology Center and Ag + Open Space for a guided hike at the beautiful 960-acre Saddle Mountain preserve above Rincon Valley, near the eastern boundary of Santa Rosa in the Mayacamas Mountain Range. This is the first hike organized by Sonoma Ecology Center on the property, and the first public walk on the Preserve since it was touched by the recent Glass Fire.

The hike will be led by Ag + Open Space stewardship specialist, fire ecologist, and Preserve manager Monica Delmartini and SEC education program manager, Tony Passantino. We’ll discuss fire’s ecological effects and its role in California landscapes, post-fire land stewardship, and Ag + Open Space’s current efforts to enhance biodiversity and forest resiliency through fuel reduction, targeted understory thinning, and prescribed and cultural burning.

This is a moderately strenuous hike of approximately 3-4 miles with substantial elevation gain, on established trails/fire roads.

There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of  Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.

For more information, contact Tony Passantino at tony@sonomaecologycenter.org.
