Explore Plant Communities at Montini Open Space Preserve
Get lost in the botanical wonderland of Montini Open Space Preserve!
Join Sonoma Ecology Center, in partnership with Sonoma County Ag + Open Space as we explore the preserve’s many divers plant communities! This seasonal walk, led by retired field botanist Greg Perrier, is a community favorite and a must-do for learning about Sonoma Valley’s unique ecology. The walk will include discussion of stewardship practices and the factors that affect the distribution of the plant communities within the preserve. We’ll see the emergence of herbaceous vegetation and how it varies by site, as well as the return of vegetation to areas that burned during the June 2025 prescribed fire treatment, conducted by Sonoma Valley Fire District in collaboration with Sonoma Ecology Center.
Due to occasionally steep trails and uneven footing, this hike is rated intermediate; however, frequent pauses will allow hikers to catch their breath.
This outing is FREE to attend thanks to the voters of Sonoma County, who fund the work of Sonoma County Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.
