Dogbane Preserve

Dogbane Preserve cordage-making + stewardship day

Date: Saturday, February 12
Time: 10:00am – 1:00pm
Location: Dogbane Preserve, details will be shared prior to the event

PLEASE NOTE: As the pandemic continues to shift, we will update participants if Health Orders or other guidance requires us to cancel this outing.

Please join Ag + Open Space and special guests for a day of cordage-making and stewardship at the Dogbane Preserve. With many years of community care, the dogbane plant has thrived on this special three-acre, culturally-significant property. For centuries, Indigenous peoples have come from all over the state to harvest the plant for use in making cordage, nets, bags, and belts. Participants will enjoy a cordage-making demonstration before helping to steward the property through the removal of invasive plants. Tribal members and local experts will help participants deepen their understanding of the cultural and ecological importance of the Dogbane Preserve located between Santa Rosa and Windsor.

COVID safety: We ask that you wear a mask whenever we are gathered closely as a group. You are free to take your mask off while walking around the property, as long as you maintain social distance from others outside of your own group.

Snacks and shovels will be provided, but please bring your own gloves and loppers or clippers if you have them. We’ll have some extras on hand just in case. Please dress in layers and wear clothes that can get dirty. Sturdy shoes are recommended. This event will run in light rain, but heavy rain will cancel. If you’re unsure, please call (707) 565-7354 on the morning of the outing for more information.

This is a free event, but registration is required via the form below:
