Join the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation, CNPS-Milo Baker Chapter, and Sonoma County Ag + Open Space for a relaxing evening of drawing and exploring nature through art. In this hands-on workshop, participants will carefully observe a selected plant and learn how to render it using colored pencils. With a guided, step-by-step approach, even beginners will feel comfortable and successful as they create their own botanical drawing to take home.

After completing the initial drawing, participants will have time to add color and detail using colored pencils. Finished artwork can be framed, displayed, or even turned into a blank card for gifting. Most importantly, the session offers an opportunity to slow down, learn something new, and enjoy the creative process together.

Careful attention to nature can be both calming and nurturing. By closely observing plants and translating their beauty onto paper, participants can deepen their connection with the natural world around them.

About the Instructor: Ginny Spencer has been an educator of children and adults for more than 30 years. As a classroom teacher and later as an art instructor for all ages at Oak Grove School, she has provided a wide range of engaging and rewarding art experiences.

Outside the school setting, Ginny has studied botanical art using colored pencils with local artist Nina Antze for more than a decade. She has participated in several art shows, most recently an exhibit at Heron Hall featuring plants native to the Laguna environment.

There is no charge for this event. It is made possible by the taxpayers of Sonoma County, who fund the work of Ag + Open Space through a quarter-cent sales tax.
