Autumn Nature Journaling at Sonoma Garden Park
Join Sonoma Ecology Center and Sonoma County Ag + Open Space for a cozy autumnal afternoon exploring the art of nature journaling! This workshop will be structured for those who have dabbled in nature journaling or have attended other workshops, but beginners are welcome! Nature Journalist extraordinaire Sarah Reid will lead you through drawing and recording exercises to practice techniques and hone skills. Have fun using the printed journaling guide and try your hand with a watercoloring water brush! Then, immersed in a chosen sit spot, you will delve into the beauty and intrigue of the garden up-close. All materials will be provided but if you have a blank book or favorite journal and colored pencils please bring them along.
We will be out in nature, so be ready to get a little dirty! Extra warm layers and sturdy shoes for walking paths through the 6 acre garden are recommended. This workshop is led by Sarah Reid, a Sonoma County foremost nature journalist and guide and Julia Megna, Sonoma Ecology Center Education Project Manager.
There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax. Sonoma Garden Park was protected by Ag + Open Space in November of 2011 for recreation and preservation of its natural resources, and learning classroom environment for agriculture field trips for nearby elementary schools through Sonoma Ecology Center’s “Growing Discovery” program. The 6-acre property, hidden in eastern Sonoma, is an incredible public park and working garden site in Sonoma Valley, home of a wide array of habitats alongside sustainably designed systems for both agriculture use and landscaping purposes.
