About the Site:
This hike explores one of Sonoma County’s most scenic and ecologically significant areas. North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve offers the first public access to the north side of Sonoma Mountain, a defining landform of the county. The area features the headwaters of Matanzas Creek, the only remaining coast redwood groves on the mountain’s north slope, vast oak woodlands, a rare vernal pool buttercup species, and key habitat within the Sonoma Valley Wildlife Corridor. Wildlife such as mountain lions, bobcats, golden eagles, and western pond turtles all call this region home.

The park includes six properties—five of which were permanently protected by the Sonoma County Ag + and Open Space using voter-approved funds and transferred to Sonoma County Regional Parks for public access and long-term stewardship.
