Lend a Hand
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us! As a District volunteer you will play an important role in preserving and stewarding the open space lands in Sonoma County – while enjoying many other great benefits for you and your family, such as:
- Experiencing Sonoma County’s diverse natural and working lands
- Gaining new skills and understanding of the outdoors
- Exercising your mind and body
- Meeting interesting people with a shared passion for the environment
- Knowing you’ve made a difference in your community
If you are interested in volunteering please tell us about yourself using our Volunteer Interest Form.
Join a dynamic and dedicated stewardship work crew to assist with property maintenance and natural resource management activities including invasive plant removal, erosion control, road maintenance, and trail work.
Enroll your middle or high school class in this service-learning program that teaches about the importance of conserving a particular habitat type (vernal pool, oak woodland, grassland or coastal prairie, riparian) through hands-on land stewardship and citizen science projects at “adopted” open space preserves.
Help us be the “eyes and ears” of spectacular Sonoma County Open Space Preserves that are otherwise closed to the public by hiking around to observe and report on conditions of trails, waterways, vegetation, and access.
Current patrollers, after your hike please submit a report using our Volunteer Patrol Report Card.
Volunteer Easement Monitors
Help us monitor privately-owned District-protected properties as part of our easement monitoring program. Volunteers visit many properties each year, hiking, monitoring, taking photos, talking with landowners, completing reports, and identifying issues of concern for our stewardship team.
