Join us on a walk alongside the largest local intact tidal salt marsh: the Petaluma Marsh. You’ll hear about the ranching legacy in the baylands and how local partners are working together to understand the river’s historical hydrology in order to identify and prioritize multi-benefit wetland restoration opportunities in the watershed.

Meet local rancher Craig Jacobsen, representatives from the Sonoma Resource Conservation District, and other local partners as we:
• preview a new short video — “The Marsh: Baylands in Transition”;
• present some of the initial findings in the developing Petaluma River Historical Hydrology Study;
• see the legacy of hay production and ranching near the bay;
• take in the stunning viewsheds of this dynamic watershed.

The tour will highlight this protected 368-acre ranch as we walk out to a portion of the levee paralleling the Petaluma River. You won’t want to miss this exclusive opportunity!

This is an Agricultural Heritage Series event presented by the Sonoma Resource Conservation District and the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District. This outing is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the Agricultural and Open Space District’s work with a quarter-cent sales tax.
