What: Calabazas Creek Open Space Preserve Volunteer Patrol Orientation
When: Saturday, June 30, 2018, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Where: We’ll meet in the quarry off of Nuns Canyon Road in Glen Ellen. The quarry is located on Nuns Canyon Road. Take the 1st left after Nelligan Road.
What to bring: Sturdy hiking shoes, hiking poles or a stick if you like (there is a creek crossing, steep terrain, and a short section of rocky trail), sun hat, sunscreen, mosquito/tick repellent, sunglasses, water, and a snack. There is poison oak out there, but we’ll be able to avoid it.
RSVP: Please email Leslie Lew to RSVP and receive information materials ahead of the orientation.

Calabazas Creek Open Space Preserve is 1,290 acres, owned by Ag + Open Space, and was protected in 2004. People can visit this property by joining the Volunteer Patrol or by participating in guided outings. This spectacular property is located in the heart of the Valley of the Moon and features a number of creeks, including Calabazas Creek. Guided tours allow visitors to enjoy the wildflowers, ferns, oaks, redwoods, and open grasslands that cover this diverse property. Trained volunteer patrollers regularly visit and care for the property.

Our volunteers are very valuable to us as they are the “eyes and ears” of Calabazas Creek Open Space Preserve. Joining the Volunteer Patrol is a great way for you to discover this beautiful place to hike in your neighborhood while helping Ag + Open Space staff best manage and care for the natural resources on the property.

We ask all interested volunteer patrollers participate in an orientation. The orientation is roughly three hours long and involves 45 min or so of covering the nuts and bolts of volunteering, sharing some background about the preserve, and checking out the maps and routes. The orientation will be followed by a 2-hour hike. The hike portion is optional but not to be missed! Please share this invitation with any of your friends/family/colleagues who may be interested in hiking and helping out on the preserve.
