The Crane Farm, protected by the District with an easement, has been dry-farmed to grow Crane melons for many years. The fragrant, specialty melon was developed by Oliver Crane in the 1920’s and four generations of the Crane family have produced them since that time. This sweeping 80-acre rectangular property provides an unobstructed view from Petaluma Hill Rd. up to the top of Sonoma Mountain. It joins several other District-protected properties along Petaluma Hill Rd. that forever will provide a rural landscape along the northeast boundary of the City of Rohnert Park.
