Forming the backdrop to Santa Rosa, Taylor Mountain Open Space Preserve offers opportunities for public access right on the urban edge. Taylor Mountain offers many inviting hikes and spectacular vistas in every direction. In the spring, wildflowers abound and the combination of meadows, oak woodlands and several wetlands and springs provide habitat for a wide variety of wildlife and bird species—a fantastic spot for bird watching! Taylor Mountain also has a rich farming and cultural heritage dating back to 1876. As part of the master park planning process, the public will be invited to participate to decide the long-term development of this dramatic natural and historic resource so close to the city.
Update: The District is establishing an Interim Public Access Permit Program, and making improvements, that will allow access to this beautiful property while a master plan is being prepared in partnership with Sonoma County Regional Parks. Orientations for the permit program will begin in January 2010. For more information on the permit program, please go to www.landpaths.org
