The most unique feature of Riverfront Park is the trio of mining pits that have been reclaimed as lakes: Lake Benoist, Lake Wilson and Lake McLaughlin. Come explore the miles of trails that surround these distinctive bodies of water, or wander through majestic conifers in the park’s 15-acre redwood grove. You’ll find a number of different plant communities in your walks around the park, including cottonwoods and willows. Of course, Riverfront Park also has a river—one mile of Russian River frontage supports endangered Coho salmon, Chinook salmon and steelhead. The river and surrounding marshland are home to a variety of bird species such as the great egret, great blue heron, river green heron and yellow warbler. Bring your binoculars! Purchased in partnership with the Sonoma County Water Agency and given to County Regional Parks for development, Riverfront Park is a wonderful place for families to have fun and experience a diverse natural environment.
