Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District

Hood Mountain Regional Park

Serious hikers, this is the property for you. The District added nearly 550 acres to Hood Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve with the purchase of two properties and made it possible to develop a new Highway 12 park entrance for easier public access. You can choose from a wide variety of trails, with increasing levels of difficulty and elevation change. Whatever trail you choose will reveal wonderful sites. Hike a prominent ridge at the northern end of the Valley of the Moon with incredible 360-degree vistas to San Pablo Bay, Santa Rosa, Mt. St. Helena and the coastal mountains, and even see a cave in the rock cliff! Or take a shorter hike and visit an old homestead and two ponds with Sonoma Valley views and plenty of cool woodlands. Hood Mountain’s rich woodlands include Douglas fir, oak, chaparral, and a rare pygmy forest with full-grown trees shorter than you are! (Created through two District acquisitions: Johnson and Lawson properties.)
