Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District

Cooley Ranch

Cooley Ranch is by far, the largest District acquisition. The rich diversity of plant and animal species and the unspoiled landforms unique to this property are reminiscent of a much earlier time in Sonoma County. Old-growth redwoods, oak forests, vineyards and miles of creeks and streams are just some of the features of this magnificent and incredibly diverse landscape, home to an unparalleled array of wildlife species. From its hidden waterfalls nestled in shaded valleys to the gnarled oaks rising from windswept rocky outcroppings, Cooley Ranch is one of the county’s greatest ecological treasures. One-quarter of the Dry Creek watershed is protected on this property. The District retains a conservation easement over the land, and several times a year guided tours (some of them overnight campouts) are offered to the public to enjoy its beauty.
