Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District

Camozzi

Protected with conservation easements in three separate transactions, this rolling coastal pastureland west of Cotati is located in an area known for its excellent dairy land. Working with third generation dairy farmer, Bobby Camozzi, the District negotiated the purchase of two properties from nearby farmers who no longer wished to stay in agriculture and resold them to Camozzi in the same transactions, retaining conservation easements. One property had several developable lots that had been former dairy grazing land. The District also purchased an easement over Camozzi’s existing farm. The properties are adjacent to the Mazzetta dairy farm and together they offer a wide vista of rural beauty while continuing to invigorate the agricultural economy. The land provides grazing for dairy cows amidst two eucalyptus groves and Stemple Creek, which crosses one of the properties from northeast to southwest and provides valuable creek side habitat. Bobby Camozzi and his family produce milk organically and sell it to local processor, Clover-Stornetta, for their focus on this new niche market.
